Grade "A" Ackee Ackee is a true Jamaican fruit. To the surprise of many, this unique fruit is eaten as a vegetable. It is often used in Vol au Vin, with rice, in quiche, and in one of Jamaica's signature dishes, ackee and saltfish.
Ackee can be found in: A medium-sized tree that produces beautiful red and yellow pear-shaped fruit. When ripe, the pod naturally splits into three sections to reveal three shiny black seeds, each attached to an edible yellow aril. It is these arils that are consumed after the seeds are removed.
