Garofalo Elbow Macaroni was developed specifically for the UK market, where it is sold due to its shape not found in Italy. It is thought to be derived from the Italian term maccheroni, where the noun maccheroni refers to a straight tubular square-ended pasta. Curved (elbow) macaroni is ideal for macaroni cheese, allowing the sauce to surround both the inside and outside of the tube.
