Remarkable Connections
Granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1600, the East India Company was founded to explore the mysteries of the Orient. In the process, it mapped trade routes, discovered rare goods, and established trading ports that would grow into the cities of Singapore, Hong Kong, and Mumbai. It changed habits, tastes, and attitudes, influencing the very fabric of our lives today.

London was its centre, a vast global warehouse where treasures from all over the world were stored: for the first time, precious cargoes of fine tea, coffee, spices, silks and more from far-flung lands were available in the same place.

Unexpected, and often remarkable, connections between ingredients, flavors and textures were suddenly possible, creating a feeling of abundance and richness; invigorating everyday life. This tradition and pioneering spirit guides us today.
