I don't think a week goes by without reaching for a pack of orzo pasta. "Orzo" means barley in Italian, and "risoni" means large grains of rice, so you can call it either way, depending on whether you feel the shape of this pasta resembles rice or wheat! I add it to meatballs while they're simmering in tomato sauce to make a one-pot meal, or poach it in the oven with stewed chicken and leeks and carrots, or make something like a no-stir pasta risotto with pancetta and peas. And so on. This is especially useful for having leftovers. For example, if you only have a small amount of stew, not enough for a meal, add a little water to the pot, heat it up, cook a handful of orzo in there (sometimes I'll throw in a handful of frozen petit pois) and have a quick, comforting dinner.
